SYNARC Founding Scientist, Thomas Fuerst speaks at NIST

San Francisco - April 6, 2011 - SYNARC, the world’s leading provider of medical imaging services for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, announced today that the company’s founding Chief Scientific Officer, Thomas Fuerst, PhD, will present an invited lecture on diagnostics in bone disease at the colloquium lecture series of the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) on April 8, 2011 in Washington DC. The talk is titled, Diagnostics for Bone Disease: Taking the High Road or Low Road to Standardization.

In this talk, Dr. Fuerst will review the past activities toward standardization in DXA and potential avenues for future progress. “Synarc has had a long collaboration with NIST, the International Society for Clinical Densitometry and leading experts in the field in this area” said Dr. Fuerst. “I am pleased to be able to present this work and prior efforts to the broader NIST community.”

NIST is the federal technology agency that works with industry to develop and apply technology, measurements, and standards. Founded in 1901 as the nation's first federal physical science research laboratory, NIST has made notable contributions to image processing, DNA diagnostic "chips," smoke detectors, and automated error-correcting software for machine tools. Just a few of the other areas in which NIST has had major impact include atomic clocks, X-ray standards for mammography, scanning tunneling microscopy, pollution-control technology, and high-speed dental drills.
